I was born in Nashville and grew up mostly there, with a few formative years in Hawaii and Colorado Springs. We moved to Colorado Springs for a second time when I was 15, about to start high school. I spent summers in Galveston, TX, an island off the coast of Houston in the Gulf of Mexico.

I met Jeff in San Francisco, where we composed a score for a dance solo I was performing. Then we went to Berlin where I was studying more dance and wrote some drinking songs that later became seeds of Young People songs. Back in America, we moved to LA, and Jeff met Jarrett on the internet. We invited him to play drums in what we thought was going to be a country band.
