I write them all and play everything. Matt and Jim often get root beer and q-tips for me while I work. Really. Hmm, that was pithy. Seriously, I demo alot of ideas on the 4-track and bring them to the band in a pretty raw and undeveloped state usually. Then we hash (so to speak) them out together, either by recording the tune or playing it over and over again live. Everyone makes critical contributions to the tunes before they're finished.
