The group actually began in the 40’s. They first started as the Georgia Clod Hoppers. They started singing in a town called Oak Ridge in Tennessee, and the people loved them so much that they dubbed them ‘their Oak Ridge Quartet.’ That group sang together for several years, moved to Nashville, and in the 50’s they retired. A group of young musicians purchased the name ‘Oak Ridge Quartet’ and changed it to ‘Oak Ridge Boys,’ and we are all descendents from that group.
