The band actually was started when we entered a rock competition. We just came up with the name The Clarks one day. I guess the real story which no one really hears is I was at work one day and some coincidences happened, all relating to the name The Clarks. A business I dealt with that day was named Clark. I came into practice and said hey how about The Clarks and we laughed about it and a week later when we entered the rock competition and used that name, and did fairly well in the competition and the name just sort of stuck from there.

The influences, they change all of the time and have a lot to do with who we are all listening to. We started out ten years ago listening to bands like the Hoodo Gurus, Replacements and that sort of turned to Tom Petty and went through the Blue Rodeo phases.
