I don't know if you would call us Anglophiles, but we definitely listen to a lot of British bands, a lot of those bands that never quite got huge, but should have been. We're just all about the melodic, British or American rock, you know?
I think a lot of any band is calculated, obviously. The way they present themselves, the way they look. But as far as the music is concerned, though, I think a lot of it strictly has to do with what we listen to and the way we want our songs to sound.
We try to get it to sound big and full, not overly slick, but as nice sounding and as rich as possible. It might sound somewhat retro due to our arrangements. But yeah, there is a fullness and richness that seems to have been lost in the mainstream at least.
We, from the beginning, have been about catchy, mainstream songs. And it's not so much, maybe modern pop is something we're not too crazy about, 'cause like you said the term has somehow become relevant to whatever sort of sh@t people are buying or that the labels are shoving down the kids in Middle America's throats. But traditionally pop is just popular music.
