There are certain things I don't think any band has much of a part in, whether you're on an indie or a major. Things like marketing. We insist that we get approval on ads and stuff, but we still see shit regional people do when we're on tour. Some ad in the paper that we didn't approve... but creatively it's all ours. That's the only thing you can hold control over completely. They can't make you perform or do something. As far as inter views and stuff, we grant them all.
...well, we obviously want big press if we can get it, but we're not really pushing for it. There's only like four really big magazines anyway. Spin, Rolling Stone, I'm sure she'd be psyched about that, but if we were gonna do smaller independent-type things, she'd probably be just as psyched because she knows we could relate better to the people doing the interview who know some history about us, and aren't like, "Okay, so you guys are a new band, right?" If it's someone from our scene, they'll already know the basics.
People that are so interested in giving you their biography and trying to sell you on how cool they are when they meet you. And it's like, 'Let me figure out how cool you are, I don't need your resume of who you know.' Those people bug the shit out of me, but it's fun to play with them: 'Wow, you know him? Who else do you know?' Pathological people who are just insecure about themselves.
