Phantom Planet Quotes
I think it was sort of this natural progression of ours. We were on tour for like a year and a half and on that tour it was mostly us opening for other bands and we discovered that in order to win an audience over that had never heard your music before, we sort of developed a motto of 'Harder, better, faster, stronger.' Like each night if we weren't topping the night before then we weren't being successful musician, human beings, songwriters, etc. I think we figured out what made us happy about being in the band and challenging ourselves, and I guess this record is sort of the proof of it.
I mean I guess that's sort of what happened. The first record I wrote when I was 13-to-16 years old. The Second one from 16-to-19. And I'd never really left California before then. And then a year-and-a-half of touring where I got to see places like Jakarta, New Zealand, Australia, Japan, and Europe, definitely opened my eyes to the pluses and minuses of living as a human being on planet Earth. I'm just an accumulation of my influences and stimuli and I try to be as honest as possible when I write music, so I think this record is just indicative of that change.
Every band tries to be unique in their own way and I think what we strive to do is rely on melody and a really kick ass live show.
You should come see us because each of us gives everything to the show and to the audience and we really want to make sure everyone's having a good time. And you should buy our record because it's good old, sincere rock and roll. There's a song for every occasion and every emotion.
We have a great manager and he deals with the business part for the most part, but we are involved in it and we like to be in control of what's going on so unfortunately we have to be heavily involved.
