We were really fortunate. We recorded 'Monkey Grip' in Australia. Then we got snapped up and got signed pretty much straight away by an American label. So we went to New York in '82. We did 'Desperate' and stayed for a while. Then we recorded 'What a Life' in '84.
We enjoy actually making music together. We have some sort of bond, even though we superficially sometimes don't get on, we have a bond that keeps us together. I think we maybe haven't put out a lot of records compared to some other bands. So we haven't burnt out. We've stretched out and been able to live a little bit and to breathe a little bit. We've had disappointments and some success. To be able to go overseas early in the piece was great. And to have some success overseas makes you hopeful, and keeps you going on that appreciation. I don't think we've ever had any hype around us, which hasn't burnt us out - that can be pretty scary.
